Caring for animals is more than just a job for our doctors and staff – it’s a passion. In fact, we’re proud to have received a lifetime honorary membership with the Crosby Fair and Rodeo Association, in recognition of the dedicated service our clinic provides to the community. Read on to meet our doctors and learn why your animals are in good hands here.
James Hofmann, DVM
As a child growing up in Baytown, Texas, Dr. James Hofmann dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. During his teen years, he began to pursue his passion in earnest. He volunteered his time to Dr. Wagers, who quickly put him to work at the clinic. Thanks to Dr. Wagers’ encouragement, James earned his degree from Texas A & M’s College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. Upon graduating in 1991, he returned to Crosby Veterinary Clinic to work alongside his mentor. Today, he is co-owner of the clinic (along with Dr. Darren Knapp).
Dr. Hofmann and his wife Kelley have four children. They also consider their five dogs, five cats and three horses a part of the family. Although Dr. Hofmann stays busy at the clinic, he also spends his time earning continuing education credits to stay abreast of the latest in veterinary medicine.
As an active member of the Crosby community, Dr. Hofmann serves on the board of trustees for Crosby Independent School District.
Darren Knapp, DVM
Dr. Darren Knapp is a proud graduate of the Texas A & M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. He earned his degree in 1991, graduating cum laude, and then immediately joined Crosby Veterinary Clinic, where he has been practicing ever since. Dr. Knapp is known throughout the community for his skill, compassionate care, and deep understanding of veterinary medicine.
In 2012, he and Dr. Hofmann purchased the clinic from Dr. Wagers, determined to keep the animals of Crosby and the surrounding areas healthy at an affordable cost.
Dr. Knapp is a member of Phi Zeta, the veterinary honors society. He is also a member of the Tri Beta National Biological Honor Society and the Golden Key International Honour Society. He also keeps current on the changes in veterinary medicine while earning continuing education credits.
Dr. Knapp and his wife Linda have two children and one dog.
Velvet Ritch, DVM
Dr. Velvet Ritch is the most recent addition to Crosby Veterinary Clinic. Though born in Connecticut, Dr Ritch was raised on a farm in Louisiana and determined at a very young age that she wanted to spend her life helping animals. She graduated magna cum laude with a BA in Biology from Western Connecticut State University in 2009, and obtained her DVM at Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. Her professional interests include dentistry, equine medicine, and herd health. At home, she enjoys spending time with her husband Dominic and their daughter Hadley.
